Marston Court - Modular Construction Project
Ealing, London

JCJ Construction was appointed as the principal contractor by QED Sustainable Urban Development for this groundbreaking project for the London Borough of Ealing.

Marston court, the first of its kind, provides emergency hostel accommodation for local people, assessed as being in immediate housing need. The scheme which is subject to a 10 year temporary planning agreement, uses an innovative approach to building and land use.

The re-purposed shipping containers offer a sustainable, robust, affordable and flexible solution particularly suited to this urban, difficult to access infill site.

Located within the Cuckoo Housing estate conservation area, the site was previously occupied by largely disused 1970’s garages blocks, which attracted fly tipping and anti social activity.

Four pavilions – comprising two and three storeys provide 34 units in total. There is also a site management office and laundry, with refuse storage.

The whole site is built to secured by design principles and landscaped with open outside spaces and a play area.

The project included:

  • 10x studio units for 1-2 people
  • 16x 1 bedroom units for 2-4 people
  • 8x 2 bedroom units for 3-6 people
  • 132 Maximum occupancy
  • 14 Weeks construction

There is an acute shortage of suitable housing and far too many people ending up in situations which can lead to them becoming homeless. That is why I have been working to significantly reform England’s homelessness legislation through the Homelessness Reduction Bill.

This Government is committed to helping families and the most vulnerable when they become homeless and with temporary emergency accommodation in such short supply interim schemes such as Marston Court in Ealing are providing a much needed lifeline for many.

Marston Court is a ground-breaking development to provide temporary accommodation for homeless people.
